The 鈥 launched by 成人VR视频, the World Economic Forum, and the US National Academy of Medicine in 2022 鈥 has published its inaugural Status Report: (RVM). This marks a pivotal step in understanding progress toward the sustainable local production of vaccines, establishing regional health security, and achieving vaccine equity across Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

This initiative is the first of its kind to assess global and regional progress towards RVM, across the eight pillars of RVMC鈥檚 Framework 鈥 from financing and regulation to technology and supply.

While recent years have seen strong political commitment and growing investment in RVM much of this momentum has yet to translate into coordinated, concrete action. Key findings include:

  • Regional manufacturers currently supply a low proportion of the region鈥檚 vaccine demand, 29% in ASEAN, 25% in Latin America & the Caribbean, and just 1% in Africa.
  • Strong and functional National Regulatory Authorities are essential for a sustainable vaccine ecosystem. Still, with no region yet achieving full regulatory harmonization, limited alignment continues to constrain cross-border vaccine supply and regional integration.
  • Technological and innovation capabilities remain uneven across regions, with limited platform diversity and variable success in technology transfer.

Predictable demand, stronger and harmonized regulatory systems, and technology access are essential to attract investment and ensure sustainability. The report urges governments, industry and international partners to work together to turn commitments into coordinated, fully-funded initiatives that drive regionally-led vaccine production and promote equitable access to vaccines.

鈥淭his is a pivotal moment for global health - a generational opportunity for regions left behind during COVID-19 to build lasting capabilities for greater vaccine self-reliance,鈥 said Dr Frederik Kristensen, Managing Director of the RVMC Secretariat. 鈥淭his report establishes a shared baseline, showing strong momentum and growing commitment toward regionalised vaccine manufacturing. But progress remains uneven. Greater coordination is needed to align efforts, focus resources, and achieve measurable results in all regions by 2027.鈥

RVMC will continue to support regions in building sustainable, resilient vaccine manufacturing capacity and conduct a follow-up assessment in 18 months to track progress.
